Nameplate Simulator | Choosing an Engraving Finish

レーザー・黒塗り・白塗りの彫刻仕上げを比較した木製表札

Engraving is done by laser. You can choose from three engraving finishes for the lettered area. The combination with the wood tone makes a significant difference in how the text reads.

Three finishes — laser only, black-filled, and white-filled — compared against different woods.

Three finishes

Laser engraving only leaves the wood surface uncolored, close to the natural wood tone. Black-filled engraving makes the text darker, and white-filled engraving makes it appear white. All three finishes are matte with no sheen. Pairing light wood with black fill or dark wood with white fill increases contrast for easy legibility. Conversely, pairing dark wood with black or light wood with white reduces contrast so the text blends quietly into the grain — a good choice when you prefer the lettering not to stand out.

One thing to keep in mind is how lines are rendered in laser engraving. Complex kanji characters in a thin typeface at a small size can cause strokes to fill in and lose definition. Using a simpler letterform and an appropriate size helps keep the lines clean.

How to use

Select laser only, black-filled, or white-filled under "Engraving finish" and the preview updates to show how the engraving looks. You can check how contrast changes with different wood tones.
